It is not a law that defines who I now am in Christ, but rather, Jesus Christ himself. He has become my Yardstick, the means for which I am now measured.
Man would have you believe that in order for you to live a holy life, there be certain rules and regulations that you and I should follow, for in doing so, the teaching be, that we would then be able to draw closer to Him. However, this is far from the truth. The bible tells us in Rom 1:17 herein lies the secret of the power of the Gospel; there is no good news in it until the righteousness of God is revealed! The dynamic of the gospel is the revelation of God's faith as the only valid basis for our belief. The prophets wrote in advance about the fact that God believes that righteousness reveals the life of our design. "Righteousness by his faith defines life". (Hab 2:4 the just shall live by faith)
God's passionate persuasion is uncovered from heavens perspective and not from our own. His perspective far outweighs any rule or regulation set in place by man. It is His interpretation of who we now are in Christ that carries more weight than any opinion of man.
In Christ, we are now declared innocent and therefore free to live the Christ-life free from any obligation to any obstruction put in place to trip us up into going back to an outdated belief system.
Gal 5:1 Christ defines your faith; he is your freedom from anything which the law could never free you! Find your firm footing in this freedom. Do not let religion trip you up again and harness you to a system of rules and obligations. (Mirror) From this passage we can see that for centuries, man has and continues to enforce a law that in Christ, does no longer exist. Jesus came to make this teaching obsolete and has now made it possible for us to walk in the freedom identity the Cross offered up declaring our redeemed innocence. We now break with the traditional mindset of embracing an inferior reference of ourselves.
Jesus is our reference and not an opinion! He is the one who now defines who I am. I have only one obligation and that is to live my life as my heavenly Father intended, free in Christ. Friend, this now removes any obligation placed on us to try to win favor, simply because we now understand, we already had favor with God all along. The fall of man placed me under an obligation to a law system that was never God's intent for mankind, but now, through Jesus Christ, my Savior, I am free to live according to His purpose and no longer my own.
So, when we look at ourselves, we ought to see Christ. Our starting point is in Him, Jesus is the reference of the life I now live and I am only defined by Him and nothing more than Jesus is my faith.
May you too come to the understanding of the freedom you now have in Christ and that you will not allow religion to prevent you from living the Christ-life you have now inherited...
We do well to remember that God believes that we are fully represented in Christ which sets aside the law and put any contribution of the flesh out of the equation. It is His love that sets faith in motion. (Gal 5:6) If God is not confused about you, then neither should we be... It is His faith that causes us to now understand who we are in Him!
